Case StudyNo. 002
Fast Track School Supplies
A custom online store the owner actually runs himself.
Fast Track sells school supplies, grade-level kits, and subscriptions. We replaced a rented website builder with a hand-built store the owner controls day to day, and put the keys in his hands.
The short version
Fast Track was stuck on a drag-and-drop website builder, where every price change or sold-out product meant waiting on someone else. We hand-built the owner a custom online store with a full back office, so he runs the whole thing himself: catalog, orders, shipping, and fundraisers, all from one dashboard. He owns the store, the hosting, and his customer data. We handle the building and the upkeep.
- His store, his hosting, his data
- Edit anything without touching code
- AI matches a photographed supply list to products
- Fundraiser and group-order codes built in
- Stripe checkout, subscriptions, and tax
- Preview every change before customers see it

The challenge
Fast Track sells school supplies, ready-made grade-level kits, gift kits, and subscriptions. The business was running on a drag-and-drop website builder, and it showed. Every small change, whether a new price, a swapped photo, or a product that had sold out, meant waiting on someone else to make the edit.
The owner could not run his own store. There was no real way to manage the catalog, no workflow for packing and shipping orders, and no tools for the fundraisers and group orders that matter so much to a school-supply business.
What he wanted was simple. Own the store, and run it himself.
The approach
We build stores our clients own outright, not another monthly rental that locks up their data and their growth. For Fast Track, that meant a custom-coded store with a real back office, designed so the owner controls everything day to day without touching a line of code and without depending on us for routine changes.
We also set it up to keep improving over time. Visible Local maintains the code, the client owns his hosting and payments, and updates reach the live site without us ever needing access to his accounts.
What we built
A storefront customers enjoy, and a back office the owner runs with confidence.
For the owner
- A self-service product manager to add, edit, and remove products, change prices and descriptions, and upload photos, all without code.
- Preview before publish, so he sees any change on his own store before customers ever do.
- Shipping he sets himself, either a flat rate or tiers based on order size.
- Organization and fundraiser codes, so schools, teams, and groups enter a code at checkout and he can track and reward each group.
- A home dashboard showing sales for the week, best sellers, and anything running low on stock, all at a glance.
- An orders area with a clear pack-and-ship workflow and one-click printable packing slips.
- A storefront customizer for announcements, headlines, and featured products.
- Time-savers like putting items on sale, updating a whole group of products at once, and duplicating a product to build a similar one fast.
For his customers
- A clean, fast storefront with search, categories, and ready-made grade-level kits.
- A photo-upload tool where a parent can snap a picture of a school supply list and have it matched to products automatically.
- Subscriptions for families who want supplies to arrive on a schedule.
- Secure checkout with automatic receipts and tax handling.
The part parents remember
Snap the list. The cart builds itself.
No hunting through the catalog item by item. A parent uploads a photo of the school supply list, and Fast Track's AI reads it, matches every item to real products, and fills the cart automatically.
-
Snap the list
Photograph the school's supply list, straight from a phone.
-
AI reads it
It recognizes each item and matches it to products in the store.
-
Cart's built
Everything lands in the cart, ready to check out in one go.
Under the hood
A hand-coded application built for speed, reliability, and search visibility, not a page builder with plugins bolted on.
Modern Node.js backend
Built from the ground up for the way a school-supply store actually works, not squeezed into a template.
Stripe for money
Checkout, subscriptions, and tax all handled by Stripe, so payments are secure and receipts are automatic.
AI supply-list matching
Reads a photographed supply list and matches it to real products in the catalog, automatically.
Durable storage
Product data and order history live on durable storage, so his edits and his records stay safe through every future update.
Built to be found
The technical foundations that search engines and AI assistants look for, baked in from day one.
The Visible Local difference
Most small businesses rent their online store and hand over their data along with it. We flip that. The client owns the store, the hosting, and the customer relationship. We handle the building and the upkeep. He can call on us whenever he wants to grow, and he is never locked in or held hostage by a platform.
The dream is yours. The execution is ours.
The result
Fast Track went from a rented template to a custom store the owner runs himself. His catalog, his orders, and his customer data belong to him, and they are safe. Instead of waiting on a developer for every little thing, he is free to focus on selling. The store launched clean and ready for its first season, and the growth chapter is just beginning.
Everything he now does himself, from one dashboard:
- Change prices
- Add products
- Upload photos
- Set shipping
- Launch a sale
- Track a fundraiser
- Pack an order
